Considering the recent facelift, we are pretty sure that the 2020 Kia Sorento will come without more important changes. The current generation of the popular mid-size crossover has been around since 2015. Last year, we saw a facelift that included various kinds of changes, mainly in terms of aesthetics. Therefore, we are pretty sure that the current model won’t change too much until a redesign, which will probably happen is a couple of years.
Until then, this crossover will continue to deliver a comfortable and cushioned ride. This is a genuine family SUV, which offers a great balance comfort and functionality. It isn’t the most athletic crossover in the class, but that has never been Kia’s goal. This model is a typical choice for families, which puts practicality over driving experience. The 2020 Kia Sorento should arrive sometime late in the year, definitely in the last quarter.
2020 Kia Sorento Design
In terms of base design characteristics, this crossover hasn’t changed since the introduction of the current generation in 2015. It is pretty much a typical family crossover, which received a lot of novelties with the recent update. Of course, most of them were aesthetical, so this model now comes more attractive than before. The 2020 Kia Sorento will continue with all these novelties. Of course, most of them came to the front end. You will easily notice a new face that closely mimics new models like Forte and Cadenza. That would mean a new grille shape and patter, as well as new headlights. The front bumper has been reshaped as well.
On the other end, a familiar look has been kept, though there are some minor tweaks. The next year definitely won’t bring any important novelty, though there is a chance to see a couple of new color options in the offer.
2020 Kia Sorento Interior
Once again, don’t expect to see any important change for the 2020 Kia Sorento. The recent update has brought a couple of interesting changes, but the overall layout has remained the same. You will easily notice that the dashboard is practically the same. On the other side, there is a new steering wheel, which now comes with four spokes and feels a little bit more comfortable than before. Also, there is a new shifter, while the instrument cluster has been updated with new graphics.
Still, the most important novelty of this update is probably the fact that three rows of seats are standard in all models. In previous models, the third row was reserved for higher trims only. Rest of the cabin is practically the same.
When it comes to comfort, the 2020 Kia Sorento will continue with comfortable and supportive seats. First, two rows are pretty generous in terms of the legroom. On the other side, the third row is very tight. This is a common thing among mid-size crossover, but the Sorento seems even more cramped than its rivals. Therefore, this row seems suitable for small kids only.
Another aspect where this crossover doesn’t shine is cargo area. You can count on only 11 cubic feet behind the third row, while the overall volume goes around 73 cubic feet. These numbers are way below class average ratings.
In terms of tech goodies, a list of standard features is pretty much typical for the segment. You can count on things like a 7-inch touchscreen Bluetooth, a USB port, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker audio system etc. Higher trims offer a lot of upgrades. Some of the highlights are a bigger 8-inch touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, satellite radio, wireless phone charging, navigation etc.
Unfortunately, a rearview camera is the only standard feature in base models. On the other side, a list of options includes pretty much everything that today’s auto industry offers in terms of safety. There are things like parking sensors, a surround-view camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and more.
2020 Kia Sorento Engines
The biggest change that happened with the recent update was discontinuation of a turbo inline-four engine. This engine seemed quite surplus in the powertrain lineup and wasn’t a popular choice. Therefore, the 2020 Kia Sorento will continue with two familiar naturally-aspirated units. Base models will feature a familiar 2.4-liter engine that delivers around 185 horsepower. It definitely won’t provide you with some spectacular performances, but mpg ratings are hard to beat. If you need more power, an optional 3.3-liter V6 seems like a perfect measure with its 290 horses.
2020 Kia Sorento Release Date and Price
The 2020 Kia Sorento should arrive late in the year. We don’t expect bigger changes in price, so base models should go around 26.000 dollars.
